Rose Clayton Phillips

Writer and Producer

Writer and producer of the Grammy Award-winning Best Spoken Word album Behind the Scenes of the Recording Sessions of the Class Of ’55 (America Records), she co-authored three books on Elvis Presley: Elvis Up Close (Turner Publishing); Elvis: By Those Who Knew Him (Virgin Books); and The King and Dr. Nick: What Really Happened to Elvis and Me (Harper-Collins).

For more than a decade she was a music critic and correspondent for several music-oriented publications, including Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Amusement Business. She spent 15 years as an independent field producer and director working for various network and syndicated TV news and entertainment programs, such as: ABC, CBS, CNN, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and Inside Edition. She received a Memphis and Shelby County Film, Tape, and Music Commission Certificate of Merit.

She served on the first Tennessee Film, Tape, and Music Commission, the National Editorial Committee of The Recording Academy, the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and as secretary/treasurer of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Memphis Chapter. An Assistant to the Dean of the College of Communications and Fine Arts at the University of Memphis, she received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Memphis State University and an Ed.S. from the University of Tennessee.
