President of SPECS, a Memphis consulting business specializing in entertainment promotions, whose clients include ABC Network Television, CNN, the Smithsonian Institution, Gibson Guitar and the Blues Foundation. He is a partner in Memphis International Records, specializing in American roots music. He’s former President of Gibson Entertainment, Inc., Executive Director of the Blues Foundation and President of Music Vision Productions. His writing has appeared in Rolling Stone, Downbeat, The Journal of American Ethnomusicology and Blues Revue magazine. He served as a consultant to the Smithsonian Institution on its "Rock ‘n’ Soul: Social Crossroads" exhibition.
