With an eclectic lineup featuring members of the Memphis Dawls and the Unbeheld, Dead Soldiers is an alt-country powerhouse and one of the city’s most popular new bands. Formed in 2011, the band expertly combines their collective influences-which range from metal to soul-into a raucous outlaw-country romp. Unafraid to address topics like racism, mental illness, and poverty, Dead Soldiers further differentiate themselves from the typical country music scene with their thought-provoking lyrics and darker subject matter. The band released their newest EP High Anxiety in 2014 and continues to tour and record, claiming on their website “We don’t rest, there’s too much to do.” Thankfully for us, it seems that Dead Soldiers will be a driving force in the country scene for the foreseeable future.
